Main Stream Media is conventional news platforms such as the internet, newspapers, magazines, television, and radio as opposed to social media. These platforms are all deemed as reliable and influence the viewers who use them since there is such a large following.
MSM is a good way for businesses to advertise since there is such a large audience viewing these platforms. Other times, businesses might want to stay away for main stream media for advertising because main stream media is meant more for a bigger demographic as opposed to just a portion of the public. If the businesses product is made for the whole public, it would be better to advertise with main stream media as opposed to alternative media.
Examples of main stream media include NBC, CNN, ABC, and even newspapers like the New York Times and Washington Post. These are all considered mainstream because the size of their audience, their credibility, and their ownership.
In today's society, it is common to find fake news on these platforms which has damaged the credibility of these news sources, but they are regaining their audience and support and continuing to provide us with big news.
